How can I block certain (potentially dangerous) file types from being downloaded or viewed? |
Back |
For any file type that needs to be blocked, simply add the extension (including the preceding dot) into the Blocked List of the URL Filter. For example, to block executable files (EXE), you would add .exe to the Blocked List. Or, to block screensavers (SCR), you would add .scr to the Blocked List.
If you would like to prevent the transfer of files through other (non-HTTP) protocols, the easiest way is to block off the entire port. For example, if you’d like to prevent FTP transfers, you can just block Port 21. Recall that port blocking is accessed through the ‘Group Settings’ function of the BrowseControl Console, then accessing the ‘Port/Proxy’ tab. | |
