BrowseControl
What's New?
New features in BrowseControl include:

  • Windows Vista Support
BrowseControl supports the Windows Vista operating system. All three BrowseControl components (console, server and client) are compatible on Vista.

  • USB Blocking
Blocking of USB storage devices has now been implemented. This complements the existing feature of blocking CD and floppy devices.

  • User Based Mode
BrowseControl is now able to function in two modes, Computer based and User based. User mode allows control over each user on the network, while the Computer based mode, manages at the PC level. All the functionalities and settings that are available for the Computer based mode are also applicable in the User based mode.

  • Active Directory Integration
In the User based mode, users can be imported directly from Active Directory.

  • Remote Installation of Clients
Clients can be remotely installed from the BrowseControl Console, thereby eliminating the need to visit individual client PCs.

  • Redirect Clients
The “Redirect Clients” feature of BrowseControl will allow you to resolve any incorrect entries of the Server IP address on the Client remotely from the Console. In addition, through this utility, the clients can also be redirected to an alternate server, should the server component be moved to a different system.

  • Shutdown Scheduler
Shutdown/Boot time for the Client computers can be scheduled remotely from the Console using the Shutdown Scheduler.

  • Bypass Applications
Legitimate applications such as FlexLM that require Internet access can now circumvent BrowseControl through the Bypass utility. The communication from applications listed in the Bypass utility will not be blocked by BrowseControl.

  • “URL Access Denied” Notification on Browser Page
There are more options available for notifying users when an unauthorized url page has been accessed. The options include displaying a message on a pop-up window, redirecting the user to a specified home page or presenting a message within a browser window.

  • Operator Permissions
Operators (administrators/teachers who have login rights to the BrowseControl Console) can extend the access permissions to both groups and sub groups of computers/users.
