| WIBU-KEY is the most technically advanced copy protection and license management system currently available. |
| The WIBU-KEY copy protection system is based on genuine encryption using hardware. The objective is to protect data and programs from unauthorized use. WIBU-KEY consists of software which encrypts data, driver software and a hardware component: the WIBU-BOX. |
| There are different variants of the WIBU-BOX. Each variant is based on the WIBU-KEY ASIC. The WIBU-KEY ASIC is a small, powerful Microchip containing the memory for encrypting and decrypting information. WIBU-SYSTEMS develops this chip solely at its headquarters. That means it can neither be sold illegally nor copied by others. |
| WIBU-BOXes are available for the COM - and LPT - ports, as (E)ISA slot card, as a PCCard, for the NEC-PC (serial), for RS232-Interfaces, for Japanese NEC-PC98-Systems (parallel), for the ADB-Bus of Apple Macintosh and newly released version for the USB-Bus of PCs and Macintosh. No other hardware is needed to program the WIBU-BOX and it has not yet been programmed at delivery. |
| The protected programs and data obtain queries and encryptions which access directly the WIBU-BOX connected to the PC. Without the attached WIBU-BOX, the protected programs will not run and the secured data are not readable. The decryption proceeds according to parameters which have been programmed in the WIBU-BOX. Therefore, there is no software which could imitate encryption. By using WIBU-KEY hardware, you decide how many copies of your software are in circulation. |
| WIBU-KEY offers two ways of encryption: |
| Automatic Encryption generates a protected version of the original file. Changing the source code is not necessary. It is available for executable programs in Windows and DOS. |
| Explicit Encryption requires integration into the source code. The WIBU-KEY API completes the integration into the source code. It is available for the programs of all supported operating systems Windows, Mac OS, DOS, UNIX (Linux) und OS/2. |
| WIBU-KEY in the Network: Network support is built into each and every WIBU-BOX (the WIBU-KEY hardware). WIBU-KEY includes two types of network support: Protocol-based (using TCP/IP) and Non-protocol-based (which works across any network system, even heterogeneous networks combining Unix, Mac and PC machines). You control how many network licenses a given WIBU-BOX has by programming the concurrent license limit of your choice into one of the programming slots in the WIBU-BOX. With WIBU-KEY there are no surcharges for network licensing support. |
| Modular Protection: With WIBU-KEY, up to 180 different software modules can be protected with a single WIBU-BOX with completely independent encryption for each module or program. |
| Remote Update: It is possible to remotely send software updates to your customer (eg via email) without the requirement of asking the customer to send you the dongle for reprogramming. |
| WIBU-SYSTEMS makes the claim that with WIBU-KEY you can have an extremely secure system. This level of security does not come from the driver or the WIBU-KEY ASIC alone- both are merely helping tools. The WIBU-BOX relies on these tools in order to secure programs. |
| Through RID/RED, WIBU-KEY also offers its customers the ability to protect software from systematic expulsion and from those who try to circumvent copy protection. |
